I think I can help you quickly. And hopefully my approach grows your knowledge so you feel comfortable doing these type of Excel / Word tasks in the future. I know enough about Mail Merge to be dangerous. I use it once a year for Holiday card mailings. However, I know a great deal about Excel & Word (and Outlook, PowerPoint, & Visio). I am very comfortable with Excel and have provided ad hoc training through the years to co-workers. I have several years experience teaching MBA students This past year I have also been volunteering teaching Basic / Intermediate Excel to low-income folks at the People's Resource Center (Wheaton, IL) (http://www.peoplesrc.org/).
